Unique Value Proposition
We apply a value-driven philosophy to the management of both our equity and fixed income (bond) portfolios. We believe that superior long-term investment returns are a function of combining the purchase of quality securities at attractive prices and having the patience to wait until the value is recognized in the market.
Over time, we expect that equities will provide the best risk-adjusted returns, with bonds contributing stability over shorter time periods.
Discipline and continuity lead to consistent outperformance
Clear philosophy and well established processes. The conservative, relative value approach used by BonaVista has a long history, and has been successfully applied across asset classes and across firms, from BonaVista to Sprucegrove Investment Management Ltd. (Sprucegrove), our sub-advisor for international equities. Our proprietary valuation tool, the Common Stock Rating System (CSRS), has successfully identified relative value in the marketplace under a variety of market conditions.
Continuity of decision-makers. BonaVista’s investment decision-makers – whether internal or sub-advisors – have all been associated with the firm since its inception and each one has more than twenty years of investment experience. Each decision-maker has effectively held the same asset-class responsibilities for at least 10 years.
Proven track record. BonaVista has consistently placed among the top investment managers in Canada across all asset classes. Our disciplined style and process, along with integrated, well-developed risk management tools, have delivered consistent outperformance, serving our clients very well in a variety of market conditions.
Depth of resources. With the support of its parent RBC Global Asset Management Inc. (RBC GAM), BonaVista has gained access to the resources of a large firm, while still maintaining smaller firm independence. This allows us to concentrate on excelling in investment management and client service.
